Why is Dink On Mercer Island a Pickleball Club?

Our mission is simple:

  • Communicate the City of Mercer Island staff, Parks and Recreation Commission and City Council the perspectives and needs of the Pickleball Community as a stakeholder

  • Provide a platform for updates to the Mercer Island Pickleball Community

  • Potentially run tournaments on public courts

  • Raise funds for needed amenities such as lighting, fences, or other needs that are not in the City's budget

  • Community outreach and clinics to teach the joys of Pickleball, whether it be Mercer Island Schools, those who want to learn, people wanting to gain new skills, or other groups that are currently underserved

  • Host social events

Why is this important now?

If you are not aware, the outdoor courts at Luther Burbank are about to renovated. The City received a grant from King County to partially fund this. Volunteers have been instrumental in revitalizing the courts for pickleball use, including striping, cleaning, and helping the city advocate for the grant.

A design engineering firm is being hired by the city, possibly prior to the Parks and Recreation Commission meeting on March 3rd at 5pm. You can register to speak to the commission at that meeting by sending an email to raven.gillis@mercerisland.gov. As the design process continues, the pickleball community's voice will be an important stakeholder, providing critical feedback for consideration.

Dink On Mercer Island will also communicate updates and design proposals in addition to the City's own outreach.

Let your voice be heard!
