How We Do Things at Luther Burbank Park
Easy things to remember to make Pickleball fun for everyone on Mercer Island
Luther Burbank Pickleball Courts
Rotation and Game Play
When courts are full, play a single game to 11, win by 2. Follow USAP and Mercer Island posted rules
The team on the north side of the court serves first
When all courts are in use, leave the court when you have finished your game and announce “court open”
Waiting players stack paddles in groups of four in the area designated by the City of Mercer Island
If you wish to play, your paddle must be in the stack to rotate in
You may join an incomplete stack (less than 4) at any time
Do not touch or move anyone else's paddle (forward or backward) without their permission
Players can rotate back onto the courts as many times as they desire by stacking
Players actively on the court cannot have a second paddle in the stack, nor have someone "holding a place for them" in a stack
Please be respectful when crossing courts in active game play - wait for a dead ball
Mix it up! You’ll have fun and meet other players when you rotate with everyone
Everyone is welcome. Be generous with new players. We were all new at one point. We strive to continue our reputation of being inclusive and welcoming
No leagues, lessons, or tournaments unless permitted by the City of Mercer Island
USA Pickleball Rules
Like most places, we follow USA Pickleball official rule book. This allows those playing at Luther Burbank or MICEC to have the same experience as they would on Bainbridge to Long Island. There may be a bit more swearing in Long Island, though. Or maybe not, depending upon who is playing.
The official rule book can be found on the USA Pickleball website. They also have a ton of other useful information, including how to play, where to play, and tournaments. Select this button to download the USA Pickleball rules.
